To my utter dismay I hate someone that I've never met in my life.

New iPods are out

Well Apple announced the new iPods yesterday and a bunch of other things that I really am not that interested in so I'll just focus on the iPods (because I love my portable music, from my first Walkman almost 30 year ago).

I've owned 2 iPods since they've come out, I had the 5th Gen and now the 1st Gen Touch (which I both loved).

I'm thinking of getting the new iPods just for the camera and get the 32G version, currenly mine only has 16G which was the biggest at the time when they were released and I don't have enough space for all my digital music.

Why the camera, because I take a ton of pictures and I have a really great Canon DSLR but I don't get to being that to places like concerts and shows and I need a small camera that security do let in and the new iPod would solve 2 things.

My birthday is in 16 days and I've hinted to my wife that I would really really like one.

We'll see....

Youtube the next big thing in music?

Ok the title may be too grandios, but there is some great music and artists on Youtube.

I get on Youtube on a regular basis and just surf it for hours and hours looking at homemade music, be it original music or simply singing known songs.

Recently on one of my nights of doing this I found 2 singers that I simply love and thought I would share them with you.

My first is Grannypanties30 she is simply wonderful, she sings around the house; from the closet to the restroom and has a wonderful voice. I am simply in love with her voice and how she just puts up a camera and sings.

At the moment this is my favorite video from her. I just love the energy and the fact that she's signing with gum in her mouth, just like Meatloaf.

A friend of mine mentionned that this video was made in the restroom, I'm not sure about that. You can see what looks like a water tank that looks just like the ones on a toilet.

My second is Ysabellabrave she is also simply wonderful and fun, according to her profile she's a director and have a wonderful voice. Some of her videos have really good production values compared to Grannypanties30.

This is my favorite video from Ysabellabrave, I just love the funnest of it (ok funnest is not a word):

And last but not least, Youtube is a place for well known established artists to put their videos up for their fans.

This is one of my favorite Canadian artists, Jann Arden.
My favorite songs from Jann are the sad songs (they may not be really sad but they feel sad) and my favorite right now is I'd die for you.

So if you feel that your local radio station isn't really giving you want you want why don't just drop by Youtube you might just find something that you'd never hear because of commercial radio.

Nostradamus, the prophecies, the events, the double CD by Judas Priest

Judas Priest, one of my favorite bands, recently released their new CD/Album/Digital Download (call it what ever you want in today's age) and this is my review of it.

I purchased the Nostradamus EP that was available on iTunes a few weeks prior to the release of the full version, it contains 2 songs including the title track, and Nostradamus had been playing on Sirius' Hard Attack too prior too so I was familiar to a couple of new songs before the release.

Nostradamus, the title track didn't impress me that much but I did like the Glenn's and KK's guitar work on the song. I always feel that Glenn and KK are dualing.

I got Nostradamus the day it was released on iTunes, yes I get most of my music from iTunes now and from The End Records for the really hard to find Metal.

I never give my impressions of new music on my first listen because because how I feel at the time it may influence the music. My first impression of the new Judas Priest music was blah! it's not that hard and where is Rob's screaming.
It's been in my playlist for the last few weeks and it as grown on me, I would say it's as good as their previous release and it's a good long listen at 23 songs (and you can't go wrong for 9.99 on iTunes).
So with all the blah blah that I've done to now you know the following it has 23 songs and I wasn't impressed with it, but with that said it as grown on me and I do like it.

This is a concept album (yes I used the album word) and it stands very well with other concept albums. Each song threads a story, a story of gloom based on Nostradamus' prophecies.

Some songs are tremendous, such as Pestilence and Plague, The Four Horsemen (slow song that is dominated by Rob's vocals) and some are just a plain good listen.

Overall the album (oh no that word again) is full of strong music by great musicians. If you are a fan you will enjoy the new offering from Judas Priest, if you aren't there's no way you will say this is bad and if you aren't into metal or heavy music you won't run screaming away (though some of the song titles are a little scary).

I can comfortably recommend this to anyone...

Don't forget that Judas Priest are on tour.

Chicken Head - Texas State Fair 2005

Chicken Head
Originally uploaded by LostinTexas.
Another year, another State Fair.
This year was a pretty great fair, we (my wife and I) went to the fair on the next to last day and it was great. The temperature was sunny and in the 70s and we were there most of the day.
We walked, ate, shopped, saw some pigs racing and played some games. I won several stuffed animals for my wife and I didn't really spend all that much to get them, one came I spent 50 cents and got a really decent one and the next game I played I won a really huge one for 3$.

And I got my chicken head.

We went to the fair using the Dallas transit which was decent.

Going back home wasn't so decent.

They need to put more trains when they have an event of this size. The light trains run every 20 minutes on weekends and during an event like this where they encourage you to use the transit system (and shuttle) the light train runs every 20 minutes as usual (for those that aren't familiar with the light trains it's kinda like a subway).
I'm from a city where they take their transit system seriously and on weekends the subway runs on a schedule of 20 minutes (like the Dallas system) but when they have an even like the fair they bump up the service to every 5 minutes on the line where the event is.

Next year we're going to take our car, that's what we said last year after going through the same experience. I guess we forgot, hopefully next year we'll remember that the ride home using the train was the low point of an otherwise very pleasant day.

See ya all next year at the fair.
