Chicken Head - Texas State Fair 2005
This year was a pretty great fair, we (my wife and I) went to the fair on the next to last day and it was great. The temperature was sunny and in the 70s and we were there most of the day.
We walked, ate, shopped, saw some pigs racing and played some games. I won several stuffed animals for my wife and I didn't really spend all that much to get them, one came I spent 50 cents and got a really decent one and the next game I played I won a really huge one for 3$.
And I got my chicken head.
We went to the fair using the Dallas transit which was decent.
Going back home wasn't so decent.
They need to put more trains when they have an event of this size. The light trains run every 20 minutes on weekends and during an event like this where they encourage you to use the transit system (and shuttle) the light train runs every 20 minutes as usual (for those that aren't familiar with the light trains it's kinda like a subway).
I'm from a city where they take their transit system seriously and on weekends the subway runs on a schedule of 20 minutes (like the Dallas system) but when they have an even like the fair they bump up the service to every 5 minutes on the line where the event is.
Next year we're going to take our car, that's what we said last year after going through the same experience. I guess we forgot, hopefully next year we'll remember that the ride home using the train was the low point of an otherwise very pleasant day.
See ya all next year at the fair.

Geeky...no really geeky
Saturday was a really great day, it was a geeky day. I went to my 5th Dallas Comic Con since moving to Dallas 5 years ago.
On this geekiest of days I got to meet some of my favorite stars such as: Jonathan Frakes, Genie Francies (oh I loved Laura and Luke when I was a wee little lad, oh I still love her now that I'm a strapping older gentleman) and the jewel of the day Miss Carrie Fisher (too bad she didn't let me take a picture of her).
After standing in line to get their autograph I needed a break so I went to Kevin Sorbo's Q&A. His Q&A was OK, not the best I've seen and the highlight of his Q&A was a gag real from Andromeda (which was funny).
I really feel like I'm a geek, I go to 2 or 3 of these conventions a year in the Dallas area but after meeting a couple of people this year I don't feel so much geeky anymore as they went to way more than my 2 or 3 a year and went all over the contry following their favorites.
My next convention is in 3 weeks and it's Wizard World in Texas and I already have my VIP pass for it.
So see you there geeks.
